The Journal for Undergraduate Multimedia Projects (JUMP) makes interesting design choices which make the message effective and memorable. When I say effective I mean that a viewer and reader can easily navigate the website and make that journey interesting together with the JUMP. When I say memorable I mean that the project uses variety of design choices which make the website standout and be unique. I am impressed by the ideas and design choices made by the creators.

Images: Images of the JUMP’s project direct a visitor. There are two categories of images at the webpage. The first category is put into black frames. The pictures show faces of people. The design choice to connect the pictures with three black lines and the pictures put into black frames creates visual integrity and a certain atmosphere. The second category is a number of big colorful pictures on the right side of the project. The pictures show nice landscapes, wild nature, and cities as well. Slideshow from these pictures makes the webpage entertaining and interesting.

Text: The text has the dominant white color onto black background. The choice to use red and orange colors was made in order to highlight important moments in the texts and navigate a reader as well. The creators use simple headings which are much bigger and bold. It helps the main idea of an article or a page to stand out and direct a reader.
An image with a person from the home page of the project "In the Eyes of Another" essentially contributes to the text because it connects the webpages and ideas. Moreover, the article creates a feeling of biography or private story of a person. Thereby, the article invites a reader to its “personal space” and be a part of the story.

Videos: The text provides word-links to other webpages where a reader finds videos related to the articles. The videos connect two design choices: text and videos onto black background of the webpage. The text identifies the video but its style differs from the text at the articles. The videos are placed very close to each other what helps easily look at both of them and choose which one to pick.  However, this is not the only design choice. Single videos are also placed onto black background but without any text. This shows how different design choices could be and how they can emphasize different ideas.

Sources: Instead of simply telling a story and showing pictures, the project provides feedback and references. They are also a part of the common concept which uses dominant black background and white text. Additionally, I like that the creators disclose the writers of the articles. The choice they make to distinguish authors from the text is using different type style and size. Moreover, the website provides responses of readers which are put into a table so that responses could be seen easily and engage the audience in discussion.

Links: The website provides links to the social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and others. Thereby, the site invites a reader to follow its experience in different social media platforms.
